My favorite commercial right now is the "Jake from State Farm" commercial. The commercial has a man talking to a State Farm agent late at night. His wife comes downstairs and asks who is he talking to. He says it's Jake from State Farm. His wife doesn't believe him and grabs the phone, asks "what are you wearing (air quotes) Jake from State Farm." He answers and she tells her husband, she sounds hideous. He tells her, "he's a guy."
Anyway, it is a hilarious commercial because I could see myself doing that to my husband in that situation. It's just too damn funny.
Just a wife and mom, trying to make life work, one day at a time.

New Year Resolution (Original Post 01/07/09)
This year my New Year resolution is to get as much free stuff and save as much money as I can. I try to do it every year, but this year I am going to try and keep track and see how much I save at the end of the year. So, I guess I will share and take you on my journey and maybe you can save too.
So far I have saved quite a bit already. I bought a 3 year magazine subscription to All You. This is a cool magazine because it has tons of coupons in it. The magazine subscription is almost $36, a year. I got 3 years for $30.
Yesterday, we went to Steve & Barry's. They are a clothing store that filed for bankruptcy. I'm not sure if all the stores are closing, but we went to the one in Vancouver, WA and they are closing. Josh got 3 pairs of jeans and 3 shirts. I got 3 pairs of pants and 5 shirts. We paid $30 for everything.
And today, Hickory Farms has a 75% off sale. I also had a coupon code for an additional 15% off. I bought 2 sausage and cheese packages for $10 each and petite fours for $4.75. Everything including shipping was $32. The sausage was originally $40 each and the petite fours were $20.
So far I have spent $92, but saved $266. Not too bad, I must say.
Mascara Ads
I hate mascara ads. The ridiculously long, full lashes that you see on the models in the TV and magazine ads. Really? Even with my favorite mascara, my lashes never look like that. Yesterday, I was looking through a magazine and came across an ad that you could plainly see that the model was wearing false eyelashes. Then in the same magazine a few pages back there was an ad for a different mascara that stated the model WAS wearing false eyelashes.
This irritates me. I want to see what the mascara really does. A before and not enhanced after picture would be great. Who do these advertisers think they are fooling? I don't expect to suddenly have these amazingly long lashes or that the mascara is going to grow more lashes with a wand. It's mascara not a magic potion.
With that said, I would just like to see a little more truth in their advertising.

The History of Father's Day
"That is the thankless position of the father in the family-the provider for all, and the enemy of all." -- J. August Strindberg
Father's Day, in the United States, is a holiday (third Sunday in June) to honour fathers. Credit for originating the holiday is generally given to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. She is said to have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother's Day, which at the time was becoming established as a holiday. Local religious leaders supported the idea, and the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, the month of the birthday of Dodd's father. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge gave his support to the observance, and in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson officially proclaimed it a national holiday. Observance on the third Sunday of June was decreed by law in 1972.
Although it was originally largely a religious holiday, Father's Day has been commercialized with the sending of greeting cards and the giving of gifts. Some observe the custom of wearing a red rose to indicate that one's father is living or a white rose to indicate that he is deceased. Other males—for example, grandfathers or uncles who have assumed parenting roles—are often also honoured on the day. Some Roman Catholics have continued to observe the feast day of Saint Joseph, on March 19, as a tribute to fathers.

Happy Father's Day to all those great dads out there, and to all those crappy dads out there too.

Weekend Plans~Father's Day
I try to make plans on the weekends, since it is the only time that we are usually all together.
Saturday~We are going to the IE Food Truck Fest. This is a festival that showcases about 50 food trucks in and around our area. I am very excited about going. There are also going to be skate demos, roller derby demos, music, a kids area and of course lots of food. Tickets are $10, and children 6 and under are FREE. My husband, son and myself will be going as well as my sister, nieces nephew and my mom. This is going to be so much fun!
Sunday~Father's Day and I have nothing planned. I think we may just do whatever my husband wants to. After all it is his special day!

My Current Obsessions
I'm trying to get in the habit of blogging regularly again, so I am writing small entries to make it an easier transition.
I'm always changing my current obsessions (favorites). It all depends on my mood, the season, the day, whatever. I change my mind all the time. I AM a woman after all. So in no particular order, here is my current list.
1. Nail Strips~~I freaking love them. I have the Sally Hansen ones, which I love. They are the best! I have acrylic nails, so I have only used them on my toes, but they have lasted up to 6 weeks. Probably longer, but after 6 weeks, I needed a change. I recently tried ones that I bought at Rue 21. I used those on my acrylic nails as tips. After a couple of days they have already started to peel up, but I'm not sure if it's because of the acrylic or if it's the strips. I have bought but not used Broadway and won a pair from Nail Rock. I'll let you know how those turn out.
2. Miss Adoro #307 Eyelashes~~I don't usually like to wear false eyelashes because they feel heavy on the eyes. These are different. They are 100% human hair and the #307's are half lashes and they flair out at the end. They are great. I think they look natural on and really make my eyes look amazing. I bought these at my local discount store and went to the Miss Adoro website to buy more, but they don't sell them. I did find them, thank goodness. (Click on the Miss Adoro #307 link to get them.)
3. Tank tops~~It's getting warmer and here in SoCal, it's pretty much warm all year round, but in the Summer, it is freaking hot. I don't think I have ever owned as many tank tops as I do right now. I'm always on the hunt for cute ones that I can wear out. As I have gotten older, I find that my tolerance to the heat is fading. It gets to just about 90 degrees and I am dying. I don't remember being like this when I was younger. So tank tops and shorts are my usual attire.
4. Owls~~Anything with an owl on it, I love. I have rings, necklaces and just bought a cute owl wallet and they have mustaches on.
5. Hello Kitty~~Another crazy obsession. My sister and I are always on the hunt for anything Hello Kitty. And now Vans has Hello Kitty shoes and Build A Bear has a Hello Kitty you can make. OMG super cute!
6. Necklaces~~This has been an obsession that I have always had. I'm always changing my necklaces. A few months ago, I bought a mustache one from Little Miss Mama. I bought a couple owl necklaces and right now I'm wearing one that says "Bite Me". That one has a matching ring. I'm currently dabbling in making my own necklaces too.
7. Franklin and Bash~~I love this show. This show is fun and so entertaining. Watching Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer together on screen is great. They, as well as the rest of the cast have such a wonderful chemistry that makes this show so enjoyable to watch. It also doesn't hurt to imagine that Peter Bash (Gosselaar) is just Zack Morris all grown up.
8. Get Glue~~This is another one of those "check in" apps (also on the web), but you check into shows, movies, books, topics, food, celebrities and more. You can earn stickers, that after every 20 you earn, you can request real stickers to be sent to you. And also earn Guru status for your favorite...whatever. It is a lot of fun, and I find myself checking into everything. Even sleep. Lol
9. Recipes~~I am so tired of the same old thing. I'm collecting recipes and trying to get them all organized. I work on this every night. And I find so many, I don't think I could ever make all of them.
10. Finding activities for my family to do~~I'm always looking for free, cheap or just fun activities for my family to do. My husband works Mon-Fri, so the weekends are family time. I try to find at least one activity every weekend for us to do together.
11. I almost forgot~Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Chiller~~I'm a HUGE Buffy/Whedon fan, so when I found out that ChillerTV airs Buffy every weeknight and 6 episodes on Sundays, I was on it. So every night, well more like early morning (1am) I'm in my comfy bed watching reruns of Buffy.
